This fully custom Florida home was built from the ground up with bold proportions. Upon entering through a 30 ft tall rotunda, Rotunda A tall circular room, sometimes with a curved or domed roof. While the large spaces are fantastic for entertaining, they also needed to feel comfortable and grounding for daily life for a family of four. Creating warmth and a feeling of humanity in this new construction home was paramount.

A major inspiration for color use in this project was Thorvaldsens Museum Thorvaldsens Museum A single artist museum dedicated to the work of Danish neoclassical sulptor Betel Thorvaldsen. The way the wall color evolves from room to room is not only bewitching, but invites exploration through the home.

Imagining family interactions; the settings where family members would discuss their day, have a quiet reading moment, or where a child might perch while a parent cooks dinner helped inform the feel of the material choices. Tactile elements such as suede, nubby cotton, raffia, wool, angora and leathers were grounding and comforting to experience.

In such dramatically large spaces, furnishings and decor were scaled up to match. A custom 26 foot rug defined the main gathering area in the great room, while a 22 foot tall Anna Karlin chandelier, a custom design, wraps around the entryway rotunda. Because the proportions of the space were so striking, we created a subtle color palette with cues from nature – greens, taupes, terra cottas and browns. During the mid 20th century, Fred and Marilyn Buss excelled at making sinuous, organically shaped puzzle boxes, highlighting each wood's natural characteristics. , small sculptures from the '70s, books and unique glassware—were assembled, both to express the clients' taste and tell a story about their personal history. A book of vintage dance posters Vintage Dance Posters Dance Posters by Eleanor Rachel Luger, a compendium of experimental and unusual ballet poster design during the 1970s and 1980s, provided a wealth of graphic design and gallery wall inspiration. so inspired one of the clients, a former professional dancer with the Houston Ballet, that we created an entire wall of vintage dance posters behind the desk in her office.
